When to Repair
vs Replace?
Windshield Damage
When you're driving, rocks, gravel, and other road debris can be kicked up by passing vehicles and strike your windshield, causing chips or cracks.
When that happens, it's important to address the damage quickly. Left untreated, even minor chips can spread and become more serious. Knowing when a windshield can be repaired and when it needs to be replaced can help you make the right choice.

When Can a Windshield Be Repaired?
Our technicians carefully inspect the damage, including its size, depth, location, and type of glass, to determine whether a repair or replacement is the safest option.
Is the chip or crack small?
Small chips and cracks can often be repaired. To prevent the damage from spreading and requiring a full replacement, it's best to address it as soon as possible.
When Does a Windshield Need to Be Replaced?
In some cases, a full windshield replacement is necessary to maintain safety and visibility.
Is the chip or crack large?
Larger chips and cracks typically require replacement, although some may still be repairable depending on the damage.
Is the glass tempered?
Tempered glass, commonly used in side and rear windows, is more likely to shatter when damaged. In these cases, replacement is usually required.
Is the damage deep?
If a crack or chip extends beyond half the thickness of the glass, or penetrates both layers of a laminated windshield, replacement is recommended for safety and long-term durability.
Is the damage in the driver's line of sight?
Damage in the driver's field of vision can obstruct visibility and may require replacement.
Does the crack extend to the edge of the windshield?
Edge-to-edge cracks can compromise the structural strength of the windshield and generally require replacement.
Are there multiple chips or cracks?
Multiple damaged areas weaken the glass and make it more susceptible to further damage. In most cases, more than two damaged areas will require replacement.
